The beautifully feminine and embellished 2012 Autumn/Winter collection of local designer Megan Park has just arrived for the season. Not many know that after studying fashion design and working as a textile designer in Melbourne, Park moved to London where she began designing textiles for the likes of Givenchy and other high-end European fashion houses.

If that wasn't an achievement in itself, when Megan launched her eponymous collection of bags and scarves it was immediately picked up by some of the world's leading stores. She has since returned to Melbourne and launched her beautiful clothing collection.

Since her fashion debut in 2003 at Mercedes-Benz Australian Fashion Week, Kit Willow has fast risen through the ranks to become a known name in the fashion industry. From hitting the catwalks at London Fashion Week the following year, to being selected as one of the ten brands to have a fully sponsored Runway show during New York Fashion Week in 2005, WILLOW has easily convinced her fans she has talent to last.

A strong part of her success has also been her knack for pulling together teams of amazing people to work with her. WILLOW’s Future Memories 2012 lookbook shoot was no exception, with Julia Restoin Roitfeld onboard as art director and ex French Vogue Fashion Editor Melanie Huynh as stylist. Helmut Lang leather spotted at NYC Fashion week in a windy moment!

Helmut Lang debuted a fierce Autumn/Winter 2012 collection at New York Fashion Week recently. The range was largely black and white with shades of grey and brown, while featuring pops of burgundy. The line also donned prints of acid wash and tie-dye used for pants, dresses and other seperates.

The street style of NY Fashion Week also presented Helmut Lang’s designs with one fan spotted during a windy moment! This photo showcases Helmut Lang’s reversible flux fur jacket. Directions designer Acne has a new collection available and that is cause for excitement! As the terrific new range hit the catwalk it demanded and owned the attention of everyone in the audience. Jonny Johansson the designer behind Acne, drew on inspiration from a recent trip to Marrakech with the result a runway filled with pieces expressing ease and confidence.

Jonny acknowledged how hard he worked to avoid falling into the fashion clichés that Morocco had born. Apparently he had to reconsider the city and interpret its colours and attitude in a way that felt relevant and urbane. Whatever he did, it worked and we love it! In the topic of window installations, here is a photo of James Perse’s statement window design on Bleecker Street in New York, which is filled with empty cages! No, it’s not a new edgy aesthetic for the basics brand, but a statement of support...

The Beagle Freedom Project is a rescue group that helps find new homes for laboratory dogs. It sounds like James Perse has a soft spot for pooches! Who wouldn’t after reading what goes on…The project’s beagles have spent their lives undergoing animal testing with many of them never even permitted to venture outside. The Beagle Freedom Project is trying to find these dogs new homes and James Perse is more than happy to lend a hand for such a worthy cause. Our striking new window has been installed to celebrate the launch of Autumn/Winter 2012.

Celebrated stylist Natalie Coulter and the team from Belle Flaneur created the window, which features a steampunk backdrop inspired by the post-apocalyptic landscape in Blade Runner.

The collections for Autumn/Winter 2012 are typically raw, bold and confident and now the window reflects what we showcase in store!

Now all you Sydney fashionistas can walk down New South Head Road and enjoy this spectacular street art, which is a unique setting for our beautifully designed pieces.

Five years after joining Helmut Lang as creative directors, husband and wife design duo Nicole and Michael Colovos have put their collection on the runway for the first time. The pair could have been tempted to add some bells and whistles for the showcase of their Spring collection but instead chose to rely on the cool, urban vibe of their clothes.

Bold statement pieces in lightweight, ethereal materials dominated the runway. Think sharp cut blazers, lots of black leather, bra tops and bared midriffs, waistlines that hug the hip, loose tops with detailed panelling and jackets cut and cropped away in the back. How lucky are we to be home of the world’s 3rd best city!? Sydney was voted third behind London and Geneva according to the 2011 City RepTrak index survey conducted in 15 countries with 35,000 people. The survey showed that Sydney has the third best reputation of world cities, despite being rank as “the best city to live in” and the second “most beautiful city” after Rome.

So, this year if you are thinking of watching the fireworks in Sydney for NYE make sure you appreciate all the beautiful surroundings. With just over a week till the big party, make sure you pop in store to find that perfect New Years dress.

Popular British comedy duo ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ will make a comeback on Australian television screens with three special episodes to celebrate the 20th anniversary.

Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders will reprise their much-loved character’s Edina, a highly-strung international fashion PR guru and Patsy, a sex-crazed magazine editor who is famously fond of alcohol. “Like a good bottle of champagne we hope that we have got better with time without losing any of our sparkle,” Saunders told the BBC.

“Last week when we started filming in dear old West London, it was as if nothing had changed. It was raining. Nevertheless, we are so happy to be working for an audience that has frown just a tiny bit older like us, bit is still willing to let us fall over on TV in the name of PR,” she added.

Directions will be welcoming Orla Kiely’s new collection next year with the fabulous range arriving in mid January.

The talented designer is renowned for her quirky signature retro stem prints that are testimony to her Irish heritage.

“I get my inspiration from everywhere, really,” she says. “But I think a lot of it must come from my youth growing up in Ireland. Things that you maybe don’t realise, you get later somehow, like my colour taste or the nostalgia for the ‘60’s and ‘70’s.”

Kiely studied fashion and textiles at the National College of Art in her native Dublin and has a master’s degree in knitwear from the Royal College of Arts. Since starting out in 1992 in millinery, Kiely is now surround by objects, handbags and clothes and the brand is sold in 30 countries around the world.

Check out Miranda Kerr in a hot zip-up optical illusion dress which shows off her gorgeous post-bub body. Kerr is photographed with Spanish film director, Pedro Almodavar, at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Stars flocked to the venue recently to support the film director who is famed for favouring lush, glamorous landscapes on screen. It was a night where film met fashion with Anna Wintour also making an appearance and paying homage to Almodovar.

Spring racing fever!

Directions celebrated the spirit of spring racing last week, reclaiming the street for the launch of our stunning new live window installation! Space Furniture’s life sized Moooi horse was the stunning centerpiece of our interactive installation, with its floral saddle and headpiece as well as green draping vines creating a beautiful spring feel.

Bringing fashion to the sidewalk, our gorgeous model awed onlookers as she showed off this season’s racewear trends by Directions designers, adding colour and sophistication to our racing display and attracting quite a crowd to our storefront. Local window stylist Natalie Coulter designed and executed our unique display, which literally stopped traffic on New South Head Road!

Give your wardrobe a Spring clean

It’s official! Spring is finally here, which means that we can bid farewell to heavy scarves and jackets and welcome in gorgeous sun dresses and statement hats. There’s no better time than now to give your wardrobe a good spring clean, so to celebrate the new season, we thought we’d share a few of our favourite spring trends.

First, spring style is all about colour! Inject vibrant colours into your wardrobe this season and it will be sure to put a spring in your step. Honeysuckle pink, deep red, burnt orange, soft yellow and of course, white, are all runway favourites this season. Trelise Cooper’s latest collection features a vibrant palette incorporated into feminine sun dresses.

Experiment with prints! Floral patterns are always a popular spring trend and don’t be afraid to mix and match with bold prints. The Joie Ashanti layered mini dress is the perfect example of how you can incorporate gorgeous prints into your new season look.

Remember, it’s all in the detail. Look for pieces with intricate lace trimmings, beading and other unique embellishments that will really help your ensemble to shine.
